Saul – novi volonter u Udruzi IKS

U sklopu novog projekta Europskih snaga solidarnosti pod nazivom Change makers čiji je nositelj Udruga IKS, u Petrinju polako pristižu nova volonterska lica.

Dok traju pandemijske mjere, upoznajte Saula virtualno kroz njegove vlastite riječi, a bolja i sigurnija vremena ostavimo za kave i druženja 🙂

”Ja sam Saúl, imam 22 godine i dolazim iz Madrida u Španjolskoj. Trenutno sam volonter u Hrvatskoj u IKS-u sljedećih 6 mjeseci, putem programa Europskih snaga solidarnosti.

As part of the new project of the European Solidarity Corps called Change makers, which is carried out by the Association IKS , new volunteers are slowly arriving in Petrinja. The project is focused on the promotion and development of intergenerational solidarity, reducing inequality among young people in schools through the development of non-formal education methods and the promotion of tolerance, solidarity, acceptance and multiculturalism. The Change makers project is implemented through partnerships with organizations from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Spain, Turkey and Poland. The third from the Change makers team of long-term volunteers who come to Petrinja for 6 months is Saul from Spain through the partner organization Solidaridad sin fronteras.

While the pandemic measures are going on, meet Saul virtually through his own words, and leave better and safer times for coffee and socializing 🙂

I’m Saúl, I’m 22 years old and I’m from Madrid, Spain. I am currently a volunteer in Croatia at IKS for the following 6 months, as part of the European Solidarity Corps. I’m going to work at the position of Social Event Manager that will be focused on delivering activities to the most vulnerable groups of the community of Petrinja.

I’ve just finished my degree in International Studies and I wanted to discover some more practical ways to work during this year. I didn’t have a lot of experience as a volunteer, but it was something that I wanted to change. Although, I have worked with children, working as handball coach, and lived away from my house (I was studying in Brazil and in Portugal), this project represents a challenge very different for me, because it’s in a small town and because it works with groups of people with whom I have not so much experience (blind people, mentally ill, elderly and frail people…).

The opportunity to work with vulnerable and minority groups on the issues they face, in a small town of Croatia, was presented to me through my sending organization Solidaridad sin fronteras and it seemed like a good idea for this difficult year.

I hope to learn a lot, work to help other people, and to improve my professional and communication skills during this experience. It was also very important for me to improve my English and learn a little Croatian by the way. I know it’s going to be a bit of a difficult experience for me at first because I’m not used to a small place, to having to cut wood to turn on the heating in the house or to share a room. But I think I am a person who is able to adapt to new situations in a short time and that will surely happen.”
