“LevelUp!”

Iako nisu partneri u ovom projektu, imali smo priliku napokon i njih upoznati uživo i razgovarati o novom partnerstvu.

From the 26th-29th January, representatives of Association IKS participated in the second part of the training in the project “LevelUp!”, working on Qualitative youth work development and its validation, organised and coordinated by lead partners from Germany – Jugend & Kulturprojekt e.V. “LevelUp!” aims to gather youth workers, youth NGO practitioners, youth educators and volunteers with the aim of sharing best practices, experiences and expertise on measuring and assuring quality in youth work and on identifying and validating youth workers’ competences.

The first part of the training was in Dresden where the lead partners come from and the second part in Thessaloniki, Greece. The venue in Thessaloniki was “Balkan Heart”, occupied by the United Society of Balkans (USB) association, which in 2015/2016 hosted our 3 volunteers from Croatia in the long-term project of the European Voluntary Service. Although they are not partners in this project, we finally had the opportunity to meet them face to face and discuss a new partnership.

On the 1st day of the training course, Dr. Theresa Lempp presented the key terms of quality development in youth work and then the participants were asked to work on 4 different case studies based on the key terms of quality development. The common topic of the 4 case studies was the intercultural opening of youth organisations/centres. In 4 groups the participants worked on a needs analysis, setting SMART goals, developing indicators and making an action plan. In the end they defined how to monitor the activities and evaluate if they have reached set goals and if so, to what extent.

Tijekom kulturalne večeri u projektu, sudionici su predstavili svoje zemlje – Belgija, Hrvatska, Cipar, Njemačka, Grčka, Poljska, Portugal, Španjolska i Ujedinjeno Kraljevstvo! Naravno, svako predstavljanje pružilo nam je priliku čuti glazbu, probati hranu, nešto domaće popiti a i zaplesati!

During the Cultural evening LevelUp! participants presented their countries – Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Germany, Greece, Poland, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom! Of course, each presentation included music, snacks, drinks & dance!

The 2nd day of the training course started with a presentation and workshop by Dimitra Zervaki about emotional intelligence. Plutchick’s “Wheel of Emotions” was introduced so that the participants can recognize emotions and are able then to increase their self-awareness. This session aimed to highlight the importance of emotional intelligence in youth work by recognising, accepting and managing emotions. In the afternoon, Dr. Rita Júlia Sebestyén gave a workshop about conflict management. The participants worked in groups on a case-study and each group took over a role representing a certain character of the case-study. Each group developed a narrative to justify the behaviour of their character and then presented the expectations of their character from the youth worker. Each group developed an action plan about how the youth worker would act in the given situation. The groups of participants were asked to work on their own scenarios based on their own experiences.

Sljedeći dan smo posjetili udrugu ARSIS – Centar koji pruža podršku mladima u Solunu i najveća udruga s poslovnicama širom Grčke, 700 zaposlenih i preko 1500 volontera. Udruga pruža pomoć mladim ugroženim osobama i maloljetnicima bez pratnje. Gospođa Valbona Histouna, voditeljica Centra objasnila nam je kako centar dopire do mladih maloljetnika na ulici, pružajući im psihološku podršku, hranu, odjeću, knjige, igračke i sve ostalo što im je potrebno. Osim toga, tim Centra podržava integraciju mladih maloljetnika pomažući im u izradi domaćih zadaća, podučavajući ih stranim jezicima, organizirajući kulturne i obrazovne aktivnosti, umjetničke radionice i komunikaciju s njima.

The following day, we visited ARSIS – Youth Support Center, Thessaloniki which supports young vulnerable people and unaccompanied minors, the largest non-profit association with offices throughout Greece, 700 employees and over 1500 volunteers. Mrs.Valbona Histouna, the Head of the Center explained how the Center reaches out to the young minors on the street providing them psychological support, food, clothes, books, toys and anything else they need as well. Moreover, the team of the Center supports young minors’ integration by helping them with their homework, teaching them foreign languages, organising cultural and educational activities, art workshops and communicating with them. In addition, Mrs Valbona highlighted the importance of the collaboration of ARSIS – Youth Support Center, Thessaloniki with other institutions and the neighbour countries as most of the young people and minors come from Albania, Bulgaria and Romania.

In the afternoon Dr. Rita Júlia Sebestyén continued her workshop about conflict management using storytelling and performative techniques. Rita presented then the theoretical background of these methods and the participants were asked to work in 4 groups on cases they have experienced. They did a character mapping which shows the motivation of the characters, the relationship between them and possible scenarios to solve the identified conflicts.

Na večer smo nastavili s radionicom o Open Badges i priveli trening završetku s evaluacijskim sastankom i uručili Youthpass svim sudionicima.

On the last day of the LevelUp! training course, Joaquín Martín de Saavedra from the Intercultural Association Mobility Friends gave a presentation about the management of their volunteers and interns and how the association cooperates with organisations and companies at which the young people, mainly students, do their internships and voluntary service.
