Udruga IKS i OŠ Katarina Zrinska Mečenčani obilježili su 27.9.2019 Europski dan jezika kroz radionice osnova stranih jezika (portugalski, rumunjski, španjolski i talijanski jezik).

” On September 27th we had the chance to celebrate the European Day of Languages with an amazing group of students from the elementary school Katarina Zrinska in Mečenčani. The day was full of interesting activities that gave us and the kids the possibility to discover more about other languages and cultures.

The students prepared some presentations regarding our countries: Italy, Spain, Portugal and Romania. After the presentations, we all played a quiz about foreign languages, but the students were way too fast for us volunteers and we had no chance against them. The activities went on and the kids were split into four groups, and each of them were assigned to one of us for the workshops that we prepared for them. The activities aimed at teaching the kids some words and numbers from one to ten in our mother tongues. To make things more interesting and fun, we created a “memory game” to let the students learn and remember the words we were teaching them. It was entertaining and useful at the same time, and the students had so many questions about our life in our home countries.

After the language workshops, it was time for the students to share their knowledge among themselves. It was very nice to see them repeating what they learnt with no hesitation, with a giant smile on their face. At the end, the teachers and the students thanked us and it was time to go back to Petrinja.

It is always heart-warming to see how students are happy to interact with us during our workshops, and the enthusiasm they show us is always worth the effort we put into the preparations of the activities. This will probably be one of the things I will miss the most when I will go back home. ”
